One obvious use for the presentation stations in the classroom is the integration of video into the curriculum. Through the Region 10 Education Center, Rockwall ISD subscribes to Discovery Education's United Streaming online service. This website provides RISD educators with a vast resource of videos, many of which have teacher and student print resources accompanying them.

We will first explore the website, learn how to search for content, and discuss various options for retrieving resources. For class members who do not yet have a United Streaming user account, please see your instructor for the correct passcode to setup a user account. Click the graphic below to access the login page.

Do a keyword search on any topic you choose.

Choose a video by clicking the video title.
If you click the title or the icon over the FULL VIDEO text, you can stream the video by clicking the Play button, or Download the video to transfer it to your local computer. In general, use the Play button to preview the video, and the Download button to show it to the class. Because of network traffic during the day, it is not a good idea to try and stream the video for use in the classroom. Ideally, you will want to download videos prior to the day of use.

Under the Video Segments tab you can download parts of the video if you do not want to use the entire video.

Under the Citations tab you have the three major citation formats.

Under the Related Materials tab, you have several print resources, depending on the video selection. Blackline Masters are generally for student use (i.e. pre-test, post-test). Teacher's Guides provide resources for teachers. Curriculum Standards provide TEKS.

During the video, the teacher may want to pause and discuss items presented in the video. After viewing the short clip about paleontology (Paleontologist Study Fossils to Understand Life) and using the presentation station, the instructor could go to http://www.dictionary.com and define the words fossil, paleontology, and femur. If possible, the instructor could use the document camera to show students a fossilized bone.
