Still pictures are taken with a digital camera. Be sure and do several practice runs. Only move the characters about 1/4 of an inch at a time. It is very important to keep the camera still. Use a tripod if available, or be sure to have a stable surface for the camera. Use tape to label the location of the camera. The camera cannot move while you take pictures. Typically, one person is in charge of taking pictures while another person moves the characters. The more photos taken with slight character movement, the smoother the animation. Be certain to keep your hands clean of debris.

The still pictures will be imported to the computer.
  • One student will create a folder on their network (H:) drive.
  • Attach the camera to the desktop computer.
  • Import the pictures, making CERTAIN that they are numbered in sequential order.
  • Pictures will then be imported into Windows MovieMaker.
  • BEFORE you import the pictures into the timeline, change the Picture Duration to 1 second and the Transition Duration to 0.25 seconds.
  • Simply drag and drop each picture in order into the MovieMaker timeline.
